March 2nd we carry on!

Aloha MAMDRP 'ohana,

On March 2nd MAMDRP will be carrying on as planned.  We received a few phone calls to why there was a gap in the February schedule for MAMDRP, and that was much due to the fact that our MAMDRP alaka‘i all of which are UH Manoa students needed that time to study for their midterms.

Tentative schedule for March 2nd:

*Meeting at usual QLCSS 406 location
8:30-9:30am         “Harlem Shake” video shoot
•This is the latest fun thing going on with a number of universities and companies and we’re planning on NPN MAMDRP being a part of this.  For more information on exactly what the “Harlem Shake” is, feel free to look it up online on YouTube or on our MAMDRP blog.  (http://mamdrp.blogspot.com)
•For this portion of the day, we’re asking everyone to bring in their most craziest (but tasteful) costumes/outfits and fun props (inflatable rafts, tubes, crazy hats, bright clothing, old Halloween costumes, etc.)

9:30-11:30am       MAMDRP alaka‘i discussion panel
11:30-12:30pm     Lunch
12:30-3:15pm Group breakup session
•Poster presentation overview
3:15-3:30pm Evaluations/pau

Out to Makaha to conduct marine debris inventory...

For this particular MAMDRP activity,

The hui headed out to Makaha to conduct a marine debris inventory.  After the opening and pule for the morning, Uncle Kinohi shared some brief mo'olelo and history about the Makaha area.  Shortly after everyone broke up into their groups and conducted a marine debris inventory with the use of 20 feet x 20 feet transects.  Students then took an inventory of what debris both natural and non-natural were found within their marked transects.
